OUR STORY

PSHOB Owner, Jim Oswald

Jim Oswald, the proud owner of Palmetto’s Smokehouse and Oyster Bar, has always had a passion for bringing people together over great food. Jim’s love for cooking began years ago when he would run Boy Scouts for his sons, smoking barbecue and selling sandwiches in downtown Clemson. Their barbecue quickly became a local favorite, loved by thousands. When the current Palmetto’s building went up for sale, Jim knew this was his moment to create something truly special. Over the years, as his children grew up and attended Clemson, Palmetto’s became not only a beloved family gathering spot but a cornerstone of their lives—where Jim, his wife, and kids worked side by side, pouring their hearts into the restaurant. The family even embarked on a meaningful project, building the bar together—a true symbol of their bond, dedication, and shared vision. Jim’s dream was to combine his love for oysters, low country boils, and southern barbecue, infusing it all with a touch of New Orleans Cajun flavor.

Today, the menu offers something for everyone, from students to families, reflecting Jim’s unwavering commitment to providing delicious meals and a welcoming atmosphere. Through the highs and lows, Jim has worked tirelessly to ensure that Palmetto’s remains a place where memories are made, offering a gathering space for families and students alike. In a world that’s constantly changing, Palmetto’s Smokehouse and Oyster Bar remains a beacon of tradition, love, and community—a place where generations of Clemson families come together, and where Jim’s dream continues to live on.
